Singer/songwriter, worship leader and author Yancy is as richly complex and immediately simple as a mountain sunrise. A seasoned artist for more than 10 years, Yancy has opened performances for such names as Nichole Nordeman and the Newsboys. She co-wrote Avalon’s #1 hit, “I Don’t Want to Go”; and she has written two devotional books for worship leaders and musicians.
Whether onstage or tucked away behind a studio microphone, Yancy’s soaring, confident vocals are unquestionably unique. Known for her bright and upbeat pop style, Yancy’s music has already endeared her to children and preteen audiences around the country. With the national release of Have a Fancy Yancy Christmas (Pure Blue/Word Distribution), she brings her signature style to listeners of every age.
Have a Fancy Yancy Christmas was produced by Stephen Leiweke (Chris Sligh, Cindy Morgan) and features Yancy’s cheerful arrangements of classic and original Christmas selections. “The Greatest Gift” is the album’s debut single, while additional highlights of the project include such favorites as “Wonderful Christmastime,” “The First Noel,” and “Joy To The World,” as well as the Yancy-penned “Merry Christmas, Happy Christmas” and “Christmastime.”
While performing is what propelled Yancy to the stage, her innate knack for songwriting keeps her there. After composing her first song as a teenager, Yancy has honed her skill like a master craftsman, melding both the lyrical and musical worlds into a singular whole like only she can. In addition to co-penning the #1 hit “I Don’t Want to Go,” featured on Avalon’s Grammy-nominated Oxygen, Yancy wrote “Something Beautiful” for Jaci Velasquez’s Beauty Has Grace.
There’s yet another layer to Yancy’s composition as an artist, the engine that drives her writing and performing career: leading worship. Yancy spent five years at Church on the Move in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as a congregational worship leader, overseeing worship in a variety of areas and for a multitude of age groups. Whether it’s elementary, youth, young adults, or even the worship staff, Yancy has the distinctive skill to lead all ages in worship. With a strong desire to reach preteens, she released 2008’s Rock-N-Happy Heart (with a companion DVD) specifically for this audience, yet people of all ages have resonated with Yancy’s upbeat arrangements and catchy delivery.
Yancy has also written two devotionals specifically for worship leaders and band members, The Worship Pulse and Worship in Black and White. Both books are meant to bring worship teams together as they study what it means to worship God, and how they can become a single unit instead of individual players.
With her vast experience both inside and out of the worship arena, Yancy has a unique perspective on the musical and spiritual processes of worship. This viewpoint allows her to offer training and mentoring both to individual leaders and to entire worship teams. She enjoys lending her experience and keen musical ear to help worship teams reach their congregations with ever-deepening encounters with God.
Yancy serves as director of Amber Sky Records part of The reThink Group. In this position Yancy writes monthly resources for churches including weekly devotions, planned worship sets and scripts for your worship leader to help them be better communicators and leaders of worship.
